The Hardeman County Appraisal District is responsible for valuing real property and business personal property for property tax purposes. The Hardeman County Appraisal District does not levy property taxes. The taxing units within the appraisal district perform the tax assessment and tax collection process.
The Hardeman County Board of Directors is responsible for governing the appraisal district. The board appoints the chief appraiser, the taxpayer liaison officer, and the Hardeman County Appraisal Review Board.
The Hardeman County Chief Appraiser manages the appraisal district office and is responsible for valuing the taxable property within the appraisal district. Hardeman County does not have a Taxpayer Liaison Officer. Therefore, the chief appraiser serves this function.
The purpose of the Appraisal Review Board is to resolve property tax disputes between taxpayers and the Hardeman County Appraisal District. The Appraisal Review Board is made up of private citizens and is seperate from the chief appraiser and the Hardeman County Appraisal District office.
